Hallelujah

Today in class, we've heard the song Hallelujah, from Leonard Cohen. As Dani has said, there are a lot of versions of this song apart from the original one. I specially like this one, from Bon Jovi. About this version, Leonard Cohen has said it is the best version of his song he has ever heard, so I wanted to share it with you

The zipper

The invention I’ve chosen is the zipper. It might seem to be a stupid invention, but it’s an essential one.

The zipper, as we know it today, was invented by Gideon Sundback in 1913, but
the first idea about this fast way of fasten clothes was from Whitecomb L. Judson.

The zipper consists of two sets of metal teeth that are complementary. The zipper closure is necessary to unite or separate the teeth. It consists of three wedges. The teeth are made ​​to be opened or closed only one after the other.

The first zipper was used to close belts to keep money and in the tobacco bags. But when they really became famous was when they started to be used as a way to close jackets and other kind of clothes, as boots.

Before the zipper, there were other ways to fasten clothes such as the button, the laces, the needles, the pins…

Some years later, the Velcro appeared, but the zip has remained as the method to fasten clothes for excellence.

Interview with Javi Cantero

Hello, we are here in your favourite radio channel “Basket FM”. Just a few days ago, here was our future NBA star, Javier Ramírez Cantero, better known as “Javi Cantero”. After a short presentation, I started the interview.

First, I asked him what he thought about his team this year. He answered he was very happy because they hadn’t lost a match until that day, but they had a very difficult match the following day.

Then, I inquired him if he would change to another team the following year and laughing, he told me that it was too soon to think about it and he would think about it at the end of the year.

Finally, I wanted to know which NBA team he would choose when he did the leap. He thought about it for two minutes and finally he said he would really like to play at the Golden State Warriors.

That was all, because our young star was very busy and he had to prepare his match and to go training.

The song which I've chosen to talk about is "You give love a bad name". This song was the first Bon Jovi's number one hit, and it appeared in the CD "Slippery When Wet" as the first single. After "Livin' on a prayer" (the best Bon Jovi's song ever), it's one of the best and most famous songs of the American group. I really like this song because I'm a fan of the Rock from 70's, 80's and 90's, in particular of Bon Jovi.

The band members are Jon Bon Jovi (singer), Richie Sambora (guitarist), Tico Torres (drummer) and David Bryan (keyboard player).
Jon Bon Jovi's voice has been chosen as the 12th best voice to sing Rock n' Roll, and Richie Sambora is the 28th best guitarist according to Total Guitar Magazine. They both have been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Hungary

The name of the country which I'm going to write about is Hungary. It’s a little republic (93.000 km₂) in central Europe. Its inhabitants are called Hungarians, and their official language is the Hungarian. The Republic has a population of ten million people. The Capital city is Budapest.

Hungary borders with Slovakia, Ukraine, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Austria. In Hungary, the currency used is the forint (one € is equivalent to 272 forints), but as a member of the European Union since 2004, they are trying to introduce the Euro in the next few years.

During the World War II, they fought on the German side. After the war, the country was under control of the Soviet Union. Their Capital city was originally two cities, Buda and Pest.

The country has some typical dishes and drinks, such as Hungarian salami and sweet wine, but its most famous dish is the ‘goulash’.

Hungary is a highly musical country whose traditional folk music inspired such great national composers as Liszt, Bartók and Kodály. Other famous Hungarians include Albert Albert Szent-Györgyi, who discovered the existence of Vitamin C, writer and Nobel Prizewinner Imre Kertész and Oscar-winning film director István Szabó. For me, the most famous person from Hungary is the former Real Madrid player Puskas (cañoncito pum), one of the best legs ever.
