Bike, the best form of transport

The bike is the most ecological and healthy form of transport that man has invented. Nowadays,in the world there are eight hundred millions of bikes, twice as much as cars. In Asia, millions of people are carried by bikes everyday. Nevertheless, in western countries, the popular "bikes" are used, especially, to do sport.

"THE BICYCLE"

The incorporation of two pedals to the primitive bike, caused the definitive take off of this gadget, and it began to be called "bicycle", it means, a two-wheel vehicle.

Pierre Michaux put the two pedals on the front wheel, and it forced him to make this wheel bigger (up to two metres in diameter), to get a balance speed.

But the problem appeared when the rider wanted to stop. Without brakes, the only option left was to do an acrobatic jump, that, unfortunately, most times, ended with a showy fall.

KINDS OF BIKES

-Road racing bikes: To achieve more speed, lighter materials, like titanium, are used, though they are expensive,

Moreover, to offer less resistance to the air, the bikes have aerodynamics profiles, low handlebars and lenticular wheels.

-Mountain bikes: the frame is strengthened and the wheels are expanded,

with the goal of going by through rough lands.

-Cross bikes: this bikes are similar to mountain bikes, but they are typical from EEUU. The frame is light, but strong,

attached to a wide handlebar and thick wheels, to be able to perform acrobatic jumps, wherever.

-High competition bikes: they are used by professional cyclists, especially on timed races. The gearshift is electronic, to avoid dropping the handlebar when

they are in full effort. New materials have halved the weight of this bikes!

-Ride bikes: they are a hybrid between mountain bikes and competition bikes.

They are adapted to circulate cormfortably through the streets. They have light and a boot.

-Other types of bikes: bikes that can be folded with small wheels,

which can go into the baggage, for example.

-Tandem bikes: tandems are bicycles built for two. The front rider (captain) controls the steering, braking, and shifting. The back rider (stoker) sometimes has limited access to brakes.

The pedals on a tandem are connected so that they revolve around the hub in unison. Tandems come in four subcategories: mountain, road, hybrid, and recumbent. These bikes feature the same characteristics as their namesake, but they're built for two riders

-Solar bikes: This futuristic model may become a serious alternative for the people who always go by car through the streets. This type of bike works with photovoltaic cells on the top of the bike.

If it’s cloudy, it doesn’t matter, because its batteries have a range of 4 km. Greenpeace has promised to test this new kind of bike!

Radio Nevis

Hello, this is Radio Navis!

Today, in our five o'clock programme, we're going to remember the interview that we did last Monday to Claudio Navarro, a soldier from Granada.

First, I asked him how many years he had been in the Army. He answered that he had been working for the Spanish Army Forces since he was 29.

Then, I wanted to know what his job was in the place where he worked, and he said to me that he was a nurse, and that his job consisted on giving injections to vaccinate the soldiers who needed them before going to another country for a mission.

After that, I told him to explain us in which military rank he was. He said he was a captain, a three-star captain! When he said it, I was so pleased!

Just then, I asked him for the missions in which he had been, too. He told us he had been in two missions, one abroad and the other in a group of isles in Spain, called "Las Chafarinas". The mission abroad was in Lebanon, a country which was in war at that moment. I also wanted to know how long he had been there. He said he had stayed five months there, in Lebanon.

Finally, I asked him whether he would have to go on another mission in the future. He answered that of course he would. Actually, it was his work life!

Well, we've learnt that military life is difficult, isn't it? Fortunately, now military service ("la mili") doesn't exist...

"All the people in the world", by Safri Duo.

Safri Duo is a Danish percussion duo. It is composed by Uffe Savery and Morten Friis. They began working on classical music, in 1999, although they had already recorded some CDs. But after being signed by a label executive who discovered them, a track mixing both tribal and modern electronica was set to be released in 2000. The result was the popular "Played-A-Live" that became one of the most popular songs in Europe that year.

In 2003, they brought out an album called Safri Duo 3.0. Clark Anderson, a new member of the group, sang some tracks, such as Agogo Mosse or All the people in the world, which was one of their greatest hits.

I like this song because of the sense of its lyrics and because it has a catchy tune. I love singing it while I'm having a shower!

Romania

ROMANIA!
I'm a Romanian.

Romania is in south-eastern Europe. It has borders with Hungary and Serbia to the west, with Ukraine and Republic of Moldova to the north-east and with Bulgaria to the south.

Its total area is two hundred thirty-seven thousand five hundred square kilometres. 21.5 million of inhabitants live nowadays in Romania.

Its currency, the Romanian leu, which is subdivided into 100 bans (ban, in singular) equals 0.23 €.

There, the Romanian is the first language, which comes from Latin, but there are other languages around Romania which are slaves.

Bucharest is the capital city of Romania, but there are other important cities, like Constanta, Alexandria, Oradea or Sibiu.

Romanian speciality dishes include grilled meatballs, meat wrapped in cabbage leaves, pork stew with garlic and onions and doughnuts made with cream and cheese.

Famous people from Romania were the Count Vlad Dracul (in tales), the writer Eugène Ionesco, the composer George Enescu, the gymnast Nadia Comăneci and the football player Mutu, who plays for the Fiorentina.

Now, Romania has a democracy, although before the final of the Cold War it was a dictatorship

Another important fact of Romania is the entry into First World War in 1916 with the central axis (Germany and the Austro-Hungarian empire).

Finally, my country has been a member of the European Union since 2007.

Martin's return

Pablo Martin Escabias said he was 16 years old and that he had been born in Granada. He told me he lived with his parents and his brother, who was younger than him. He said him that he had studied in Compañía de María and that he was new in the Manjon school.
He hadn't pets, however he likes dogs.
He also said his favourite hobbies were going out with his friends and playing football. He told me he could speak English and Spanish, because French is hard for him. He added he had never been abroad.
The person he respected the most was his mother and the person who had influenced him the most was his father.
He said he didn't like talkative people. Pablo said he preferred evenings and he liked sunrises. He said he wouldn't like to be famous, but yes rich. He told me he had never worked. I asked him about love, he didn't tell me anything.

Luis Pablo and me...

Luis, Pablo, and I are the three teenagers that sit at the back of the class. we are a funny threesome in which I help them how to write in English, read and understand most of the things the teacher tells us to do.
I like this English class, giving our opinion, (luis pablo and me), we all three agree that we are going to miss this class in the future!!
