Advantages and disadvantages of computers in class
Computers are
used in most of schools. In some schools computers are rarely used, but in
others, computers are given to children that use them to do homework and even
to study. There are several arguments for and against it.
On the one hand,
computers are good for students because they make work shorter and easier.
Computers can give us information for our task and they can store this
information. Another reason is that are lighter than books and notebooks.
On the other
hand, children will not learn to write if they use computers all time and they
will have spelling mistakes. I think computer are less comfortable than books
to study and if we use computers too long, we will have eye problems. Computers
are also very expensive in comparison with books.
In conclusion,
computers are efficient but expensive. In my opinion computers are a good way
to learn for high school students but it is not for children.

School gates should not be locked during the day
In some schools
gates are not locked during the day, but in other schools, gates are closed all
the day. This topic has two points of view. There are arguments both for and
against it.
On the one hand, sometimes
in the same school there is compulsory and non-compulsory education, so there are students that can
go out, and some students that must not go out. That is why it is difficult to
check all the students and groups that can go out. Besides, many students would
use that for not attending lessons that they do not like. In addition, most of the
students are under-age.
On the other hand,
students who study non-compulsory education have the right to go out in some
cases, e.g. when a teacher does not come. In these cases students should have a
card with which they will be allowed to leave school, if they are over eighteen
To sump up, I
believe that the direction of the schools and the students should come to an
agreement and make the situation better for both. People should always talk and
solve their differences.
CORPUS CHRISTI 2012
Last week, Corpus Christi Festwas celebrated in Granada. Corpus Christi is celebrated 60 days after Easter
Sunday, but we celebrate it like a fair, which is very popular in Granada. This
fair usually lasts one week.
The first day, at midnight, we
celebrated the beginning of the trade fair with fireworks.
The fair atmosphere can be
enjoyed both day and night at the fairgrounds. During the day, it is typical to have Alpujarra's dishes: chorizo, blood sausage and
potatoes, also there are many horses and carriages. A lot of people dress and
dance flamenco, usually women.
The first Wednesday of the fair,
at mid-morning The Tarasque, a very big dummy of a woman standing on a dragon and wearing the clothes that are
fashionable in this season, is carried in procession along the streets of the city centre. Also, on Thursday, the
Sacrament procession leaves the Cathedral and goes in the centre of the city. It is very beautiful and
popular.
María Ballesteros & Belén Sola |
We, Belén and María, went to
the fair on Saturday with our families, wearing our 'sevillanas costumes'. A friend of us,
who has a carriage, gave us a ride around the fairgrounds. We danced sevillanas
and we drank a lot of rebujitos. It was a fantastic day, but the weather was so
hot!!!
School Uniforms
School uniforms
are used in many public and private schools, but should it be compulsory in every
school? Students have strong views about it. There are arguments both for and
against it.
On the one
hand, some students think that compulsory uniforms are a good idea because you
do not have to think every morning what you are going to wear that day and it
is easier to recognise what is your school if every school has a different
uniform.
On the
other hand, other students think that they should be free to choose their own clothes
so they do not agree with the idea of obligatory uniforms.
In my
opinion, I think that uniforms are a good idea but they can’t be obligatory
because we want to wear the clothes we want.

“School gates should not be locked during the day”
On the one hand, there are some
advantages because students sometimes need to do photocopies and in the street
they are cheaper. Also, students need to feel wide-awake of school and exams
routine at least twenty minutes. In fact, students that are allowed to leave are old enough to know what to do.
On the other hand, there are many teachers who think that letting students go out in break-times would be a lack of control because it will be
impossible to control which students have left and who have not. Also, in the high schools
there is a photocopier available for students and a canteen to have a snack or
a drink.
In conclusion, I believe that
students have all they need inside the school and it is not necessary to go out
in break-time and this way is better also for teachers.

School uniforms
Uniforms are used in many private schools in Spain, but, should they also be used in public schools?
20 years ago, there were uniforms in almost all schools, but, with the habit of buying clothes, the uniform was replaced by ordinary clothes.
Not using uniforms can have advantages or disadvantages.
The advantages are, obviously, that you can wear whatever you want and you can go to school or high school with comfortable clothes.
But it also has many disadvantages. In many schools, people judge you according the clothes you are wearing. Many girls and boys can't buy a lot of clothes and it causes feedback from colleagues.
That is why I think uniforms are necessary in schools and high schools. In Padre Manjón there was a uniform 30 years ago, and I think it would be a fantastic choice that uniforms came back to this high school.

We need to save the world!!
All the people have to preserve the world. It seems that we are against the world, because all the things we do are bad for it.
We have to save it because the world is where we can find all the energies, animals, trees and things we use. If we don´t after for it, it may happen a disaster.
Some people do not care at all and they are hurting the world, because all they want is power and money, they do not think future generations will live in bad conditions, they only look after themselves.
Well , that is why I think that we have to enjoy the world but without going beyond some limits, so
WHY CAN´T WE SAVE THE WORLD?
CHEMA MARTÍNEZ
Well I have chosen Chema Martinez in this interview because I think he is one of the best athletes not only in Spain , he is one of the best in the world!
I met him in a restaurant and I asked him a few questions, and he answered me kindly.
I asked him, What is the best part of the training?
He answered that training is hard, but when you go with your friends, you can talk about a lot of things and laugh atjokes, but he said that the worst part is that you have to concentrate a lot to do it well.
He answered that training is hard, but when you go with your friends, you can talk about a lot of things and laugh atjokes, but he said that the worst part is that you have to concentrate a lot to do it well.
He told me a few secrets about athletics and I learnt a lot of his day a day life.
So I realised that he is a very good athlete but he is a very good person too.

My grandfather is my inspiration
Fours years ago I was with my grandfather he asked me why he was my inspiration. I said that I did not know.
He told me to come on. I told him he was my inspiration because he was hard-working, funny and the best person I had ever met in my life.
He started to cry. Then he asked me if that was true. I answered that it was true. Then he said I would like to be him when I was older. He told me his inspiration when he had been younger had been his father for the same things.

I thought it was good because my grandfather was very similar to his father so in the future I hope to be similar to my grandfather.

My grandpa Antonio
Last night I had a beautiful dream about
my grandfather Antonio. He died two months before I was born, so I didn’t know
him. My parents are always talking about ‘The grandpa Antonio’ and I really
wanted to know him.
In
the dream, I asked him what things he enjoyed doing most, and he answered that
he enjoyed being in the field a lot, with the cheerful nature and the songbirds. After that I
asked him for a happy moment in his lifetime that he remembered and he said:
‘the happiest day of my life was the day I learned to speak!’ then he laughed
and he said that it was a joke, he couldn’t remember it! He told me that the
happiest day of his life was the day my father was born.
I asked him another
question about why he didn’t like the sea’s waves (my parents always said
that), and he answered that it was because when he was a child, he dropped his favourite clock next to the water and the waves took it.
Finally I gave him a big
hug and he said: ‘I am very proud of you’. It was the best dream that I have ever
had.
THE PARDONER’S TALE
In a
small village, at the height of a black plague, three young men were sitting in
an inn when they noticed the passing of a coffin. When they asked who had died
a servant told them that the dead man was a friend of them who had been killed
by a thief called ‘Death’.
The three
young men decided to find Death and kill him. On the way, an old man told them
the place where ‘Death’ was. The men went there and they found some gold coins,
which they decided to keep.
Finally
the three young men killed each other because all of them wanted to keep the
gold. They finally dad found the thief ‘Death’.

Advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms.
School uniforms are used by children in public and private schools. Many
students have strong views about them. There are arguments for and against
about wearing school uniforms.
On the one hand, most of teachers and parents believe that using uniform can
transmit a sense of discipline and helps children to feel connected with the
school. Furthermore, it decreases the social discrimination among children.
On the other hand, school uniforms eliminate students' freedom of expression
and they are uncomfortable and horrible. Moreover, they can be too much
expensive for the families, which will not be able to buy them.
To sum up, I believe that school uniforms should be used in all schools because
they help to eliminate social differences between students.
However, they should be more beautiful, comfortable and cheaper.
Advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms
Many people are for the uniforms, but many others are against the use of uniforms. Each group of people has its reasons for these views.
On the one hand, uniforms are hard to find in small towns, or in certain seasons of the year, because shops sell uniforms only at the beginning of the school year. In addition, young people express their personality and feelings through the clothes they wear, and uniforms sometimes do not allow this kind of expression.
On the other hand, in schools where there are school uniforms, there is less discrimination and social pressure. Also, parents can save a lot of money, because they do not have to buy too many clothes to their children, and they are more concentrated in school.
To sum up, I think that uniforms are useful, because you don’t have to think what you will wear every day, though this is important for many students.
More practical subjects should
replace the subjects we are studying now
Nowadays most of the subjects that we have to study in school are
theoretical subjects, but more and more people now believe that we should
replace these subjects by practical subjects. There are arguments for and
against it.
On the one hand, theoretical subjects are necessary. Firstly, without these
subjects, students' training would be incomplete. We need the theory to carry
out the practice. Secondly it is difficult to make important changes like these
in our education system.
On the other hand, practical subjects are essential to assimilate the
theory and they might be more important that the other subjects, because they
are the aim of learning.
To sum up, I think that it should exist a mean between practical
subjects and theoretical subjects because both of them are necessary to students’
education.
Private schools versus
state owned schools
There are
different views on which of these two schools is better.
On the one
hand, at private schools the teachers are more aware of the students and the
teachers help them in their homework. However many of these teachers work at
private schools because their relatives also work there, so they are usually
less qualified than state owned teachers.
On the
other hand, religion is very important at private school and it is a compulsory
subject. The students are not free to choose if they want to study this subject
or not. Nevertheless, at state owned schools religion is an optional subject.
In my opinion
the most important difference between the two schools is that at private schools
the bachillerato is more expensive than at state owned school.
To sum up,
I believe that education is very important because you can choose your future
if you have a good education. Because of this I think that education should be
free and state owned school it is.

Advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms
Many people have differents views about school uniforms. There are arguments both or against it.
Many people have differents views about school uniforms. There are arguments both or against it.
On the one hand, parents think that is very useful that their children wear it, it is elegant and it is cheaper than to wear differents clothes everyday and parents and children lose less time in the mornig, before they go to school.
On the other hand, most children do not like their uniform because they think it is very ugly, and for girls it is very uncomfortable to wear tights and in winter the weather is very cold and if they wear it, girls will be colder than boys.
To sum up, I believe that when students grow up they like the idea of wearing school uniforms, because it is not very expensive and it is very useful because you do not have to think what type of clothes to wear everyday.
A DISCUSSION ESSAY BY RAMIRO
Nowadays we
are suffering the so called ‘internet revolution’ and the way that we used to
have class is changing. Many schools are installing computer in their class-rooms but, is it good at all?
On the one
hand, computers offer a lot of new learning posibilities in the class to
teachers and students. For example you can find information about a topic or
amplify the unit contents that you are studying. It is also a way for making
clasess more interesting and entertaining because you can practise your
knowledge about the unit with computer games or just surfing the net. Outside the
class it helps too, because the email is a really good way to keep contact
between teachers and students.
On the
other hand, computers could make students be distracted in different ways, and a
new research is showing that children nowadays are losing hand writing skills
and that is no good either.
To sum up,
I think that using a computer in the class is changing the education in a good
way. However, we should not forget to use our pens and notebooks too.
What
do you think about wearing an uniform at school?
In
all private schools pupils have to wear an uniform, but in public
ones they do not have to. It is a good idea to wear an uniform in any
school type?
Some
people think that it is more comfortable to wear it at school, for
example, parents think that way because they do not have to worry
about the clothes of their children. Some students as well share that
opinion because they do not have to think what clothes to wear the
next day. However, if all students would have to wear a uniform some
people would find it humdrum.
Other
students think that it is not a good idea, because they want to wear
clothes of their choice and do not depend on rules. Many parents also
disagree, because if their children stained their uniform, they would
not have another one, so they would have to wash it constantly.
In
my opinion, I prefer wearing an uniform instead of my own clothes,
because when I was in my old school I used to wear it and it was
handier than choosing different clothes every day. Nonetheless, I
think that each school should do the best for their students.

More practical subjects should replace the subjects we are studying now?
Nowadays there is a big argument about the subjects that young people have to study. Are they practical for their future?
On the one hand, many people think that the students need some basic subjects like Maths, Science, Literature and English. Some of these subjects are optional but probably, they will be necessary in our future. And there are subjects that are important for studying the other ones. For example, English is the language of science and whatever you do, you will need English. But all of those important subjects should be very practical; for example, in science classes more experiments should be done.
On the other hand, subjects like P.E. or Religion can be considered less important because you can learn them in your house or practice them in the street or in the gym. Religion is related to beliefs, so you do not need to study it.
In my opinion, there are subjects more important than others. I think that subjects like Religion or Tutorship should be left out of the curriculum because the education that you learn in those subjects is an education that your parents can give you. I like Science, but I think that if you study Science, you should have other subjects related to Literature, Latin or History because they are important for having a general culture.
USEFUL SUBJECTS FOR THE FUTURE
I
think we are studying some subjects that should be replaced by others more interesting.
On
the one hand, I think we should learn to speak English, because we can write
more o r less rightly but when we have to talk to another person, we speak it
very badly. Also, we can learn cooking. In one or two years, maybe, we leave
home to study at university in another city and we will need cooking, because,
in my opinion, it is healthier than eating fast food and it is cheaper than
eating in a restaurant.
On
the other hand, I believe that doing these changes is too difficult. Imagine
teaching how to cook a lasagna to thirty pupils who are not quiet. It would be
also very dangerous because of the knives and other kitchen tools which can
wound their classmates.
ADVANTAGES AND
DISADVANTAGES OF SCHOOL UNIFORMS
Many people
have strong views about wearing uniform. Some of them think it is a great idea,
however the others think the
opposite.
On the one
hand, wearing uniform is a comfortable idea. Even thought wearing uniform does
not let you express your personality and feeling, it is a nice idea because you
do not have to think about what you are going to wear. In addition it makes
better the rules at school that they do not have to order how students should get
dressed. Also, wearing uniforms at school helps children feel more identified
with the school.
On the
other hand, some uniforms are expensive and difficult to find it at the shops. Students
cannot show their own style. Sometimes they make you feel hot in summer and
cold in winter. Maybe they can be uncomfortable.
To sum up,
I believe that uniforms should be optional for students in spite of they are
convenient.
School uniforms
I have always worn uniform to school until this year but many people in my school disagreed with it.
On the one hand, wearing a uniform promotes the equality between boys and girls of different social conditions, because they are all equal in school. It is also very convenient for children, because they do not have to think what to wear every day; and for parents because they do not have to buy too many clothes for children to wear at school.
On the other hand, people who do not like uniforms think that everybody should be allowed to wear what they want, because they are free to do it. And specially teenagers think that uniform are not so ''cool'' to go to school, because they are very concerned about their appearance.
To sum up, I prefer wearing uniform instead of normal clothes, because it is more economical and very convenient than choosing clothes everyday. And I think it promotes the equality between children. So I am very sad because of not wearing uniform in this High School!
Advantages and disadvantages of school uniform
There
are some arguments both for and against it
One
the one hand, some schools have rules and it is compulsory to wear uniform. These rules are usually for small children who go to primary school, for example.
On
the other hand, many pupils disagree with uniforms, for example
teenagers, who are very worried about clothes, and sometimes they go
against the rules and they wear clothes that are not appropriate at school.
To
sum up, uniforms are a good idea for small children but I think the
students of high schools shouldn't have to wear uniforms because I think that we are responsible enough to be able to choose our clothes.
Advantages and disadvantages of school uniforms
In some
schools it is required to wear uniform, but, do you agree with the uniforms?
On the one hand, school uniforms have got an important advantage:
they are more convenient when children have to choose their clothes,
because choosing your clothes can delay you. Another advantage of school
uniform is that buying a uniform is cheaper than buying ten or more different clothes, so we can say
that uniforms are more economical than normal clothes.
On the other hand, school uniform are less comfortable or less
“cool” than normal clothes, and if you are conceited, this will be a problem
for you.
To sump up, I think the only problem of school uniform is merely aesthetic.
Interview by Pablo Ortega
I have
interviewed Iker Casillas.
I decided
to interview Iker because I really appreciate his work as the goalkeeper in
Real Madrid team very much. Iker always wanted to be a goalkeeper when he was a child and
now thanks to him we are Champions of the world and Europe.
I started
my interview asking him if he did not feel lonely when he is playing a football
match. He told me that he did not feel lonely because he had the support of the
people. Them I asked him if he thought that we were going to win the UEFA
European Championship again. He told me that if they work hard and have a bit
of luck, it will not be difficult.

Lionel Andrés Messi
The other day I was running in Garcia Lorca’s park, and I saw a man running behind me. I turned around and I saw that he was Leo Messi. At first I was a bit surprised but suddenly I remembered that I had to do an interview for an English project, so I decided to ask him some questions.
I started asking him if he
really was Messi and he answered me that of course he was so I went to the next
question. “So what are you doing here?” I asked, and he began telling me a
story. He said that when he came here to Granada
to play a football match, he fell in love with the city and the weather, so he
sometimes came here for having a break.
Then I ventured to
ask him some personal details. I asked him
which goal of all of his is his favourite one. He was thinking for a while and
then he answered me that it was the goal that he had scored against the Real
Madrid in the Champions last year. He told me that he must go to the hotel and
then to the airport because he had to train for the final of the Cup so he
moved away after saying goodbye to me.
In the end I didn’t run much but that day I met my favourite football
player.
Mixed schools versus single-sex schools
Through
most part of the 20th century lots of school only offered education
for one gender, but from the 80s this has changed. Is it an evidence of
progress?
The
advantages of single-sex schools are that the students are likely to be more
focused on their studies, they usually get better marks and the teachers (who have to be of the same gender)
can teach them easily a more personal education.
However,
all these schools are private, and there are some problems that they cannot
solve, but mixed, public schools can. For example, some students at university
who have come from a single-sex school find it strange and even uncomfortable
to share the classroom with the other sex. That is not a problem with mixed
schools, where equality is an essential value. Otherwise, boys and girls don’t
pay attention to each other until secondary school.
To sum up,
I think that mixed schools are the best choice for education. Nevertheless, it
is not a big problem that they go to a single-sex school until they are 12 or
something like that, and then they should go to a mixed high school.
